Can anyone recommend a good but reasonable keyboard for learning piano?
I've been looking at Casio mainly and 1 Yamaha (Optimus MD-1600). The Casio ones are CTK700, LK90TV, LK300TV. These were picked because of the price range. I don't need anything fancy; just to practice on. My instructor suggested I get 88 keys, weighted; but other people said no need to get 88 or weighted initially. What do you recommend?
I think either would be good since it is just for practicing. Just make sure you have the 2 or 3 pedals on the bottom. It is easier to practice with the damper pedal then without because it will sound the same. I think the ones we have at church are Yamahas and they are really easy to use. Hope this helps.
The Yamaha DGX Keyboard is suitable for players who are keen to learn the piano, but also enjoy features like the musical styles that are available on musical keyboards. The reason they do not go in for a plain digital piano is because they like the auto accompaniment feature which lets them play along with the various built-in rhythms.
But Yamaha already has the YPG series, so how different is the DGX series from the YPG? Actually there is no difference and they more or less refer to the same set of keyboards. As far as the features are concerned, you can expect to find all the yamaha specific features like the USB to HOST / USB to DEVICE interfaces, keyboard lessons using the yamaha education suite, ability to download sheets using the digital music notebook, connecting to the internet using the internet direct connection, and performance assistant technology to enhance your keyboard playing.
These grand keyboards have great sounding built-in stereo speakers as well as have the option of connecting headphones for silent piano practice. Depending on the DGX model you choose, you can get the weighted graded hammer action for real piano like experience.
