A good Yamaha keyboard?
One that is 500 or less. The NP30 sounds great and is very cheap for a keyboard. There is the YPG 535, but that is 500 now... Which one, or if not, any suggestions?
I myself have a yamaha keyboard and like yamaha very much. But at your price range, I think you should open yourself to some other brands as well cause I'm almost certain you won't get the same bang for the buck with yamaha.
I recommend trying out the casio px130 or something within the privia line at a local store. I prefer it over the keyboards you've listed cause it has a more real weighted action keyboard feel than the ones you listed. You don't need better weighted action if you want to do mainly synth sounds and stuff but if you want to play the keyboard like a piano (with some notes played much softer and some much harder than others), you really can't do that well without a good weighted keyboard feel.
It sells for $500 at guitar center but if you try to get on their mailing list, they very frequently mail you 10% off coupons - it was 15% near Thanksgiving. Guitar center has tons of keyboards so I definitely recommend you test some out there even if you end up buying yours somewhere else.
Buying off craigslist.com can also save you a lot of money as well.
That said, both the NP30 and YPG 535s are good keyboards as well.
The Yamaha NP30 portable grand digital piano is something which you should seriously consider if you are looking for a digital-piano that is fairly portable, has rich sounds, and that comes with an authentic touch. To add to this, it is much easy on your wallet as well.
Best part of this digital piano is its cost, which makes it affordable for many aspiring players. And just because it is inexpensive does not mean that Yamaha has tried to cut some corners here. The fact is that this instrument comes with 76 keys instead of 88 keys and it gives you the basic, but rich, set of sounds, without too many features.
So what are the four surefire reasons for owning the Yamaha np30 portable grand digital piano? Here it goes.
1. The Yamaha NP30 comes with graded hammer action keys, which is one of the most important features needed in a good digital piano. The graded hammer action keyboard gives you authentic piano feel; the keys feel similar to real piano keys with the keys becoming lighter to play as you move to the higher octaves.
2. This digital-piano uses the best stereo samples because of which you get rich and full piano sounds. The Yamaha np30 does not have too many complicated features; its USP is its sounds and it really does well there. The sound is also greatly enhanced because of its superb built-in stereo speaker system.
3. The Yamaha np30 portable grand digital piano comes with 76 keys instead of the regular 88 keys that is available on pianos; which makes it quite portable. The rich sounds, combined with its layering feature gives rise to a huge range of possibilities for creating different sounds. Though, you may use it initially for learning to play piano, but it will surely make the transition whenever you are ready for amazing performances.
4. If you looking for a budget portable digital piano, then this is the keyboard instrument you should go for. Its cost makes it look like a budget piano; but at the same time it is quite powerful. You can expect to own a Yamaha np-30 for below 300 dollars, depending on the offer available at that moment.
Conclusion: The NP30 comes with a basic set, but rich and lush sounds, and is very easy to operate. It does not have too many features so you do not have to find your way out of various menus and options; you just straightaway get into the playing mode. The graded hammer action keyboard ensures you get authentic piano feel. Irrespective of whether you are a beginner or if you have been playing for long, you will really enjoy playing on the Yamaha np30 portable grand digital piano.
