are there many people who understand that Em E maj7 Bmb7 E Dim/aug b#5 dim business written above music???
I know what a chord is and the ordinary triads
i just can't memorize any of these chords the keyboard books give you? It may as well be written in Greek
D'you need to have a special kind of memory to understand em?
I sure do.
Minor Triad-1-b3-5
Em=E G B
Major 7 Chord- 1 3 5 7
E Maj 7= E G# B D#
I think you mean Bbm7
Minor 7th chord 1 b3 5 b7
Bbm7 chord= Bb Db F Ab
Diminished triad= 1 b3 b5
E dim= E G Bb
Augmented triad=1 3 #5
E Aug= E G# C
What do you mean by b#5? Do you mean a dominant 7th chord with a #5 like G7#5?
YOU DON'T NEED A SPECIAL MEMORY. YOU NEED TO APPLY YOURSELF AND PRACTICE THIS.
Remember this. There are FOUR kinds of triads.
Major, Minor, Augmented and Diminshed. Everything else is just an extension of those chords.
To make it even easier for my students I categorize the augmented and diminshed chords as members of the 7th chord family because they're really just partial 7ths. Take E augmented for example. If you add a Bb to it it becomes a C7#5 chord: C E G# Bb. So if I'm soloing over chords like that, I'll think of them as 7ths.
