MIDI Drum programming?

I have pro tools 7.2 with an Mbox2 Mini
I have Reason, BFD Lite, Amplitube, and Live as some of my plugins...
I am a guitar player, and know some basic piano using chords and also using the piano (in my case a MIDI keyboard) to compose songs.
My frustration comes in laying out the drums... I have a lot of complicated drum patterns in my mind that I want to lay down... but I just don't know where to start and how to do it.... :-(

If you have individual drum samples on your computer (or if your keyboard has drum kits built in) then you can play your drum patterns right on the keyboard. Every keyboard that has drum capability has the drums laid out in the same order, so it's just a matter of memorizing which note corresponds to which drum and getting used to the placement of these. For instance, low C is a bass drum, D and E just above that are 2 different snares, F# G# and A# above those are the hi hats and so on. Once you get used to it, it becomes easy. I've been doing it this way for awhile, and can play some rather intricate beats this way. Good luck.
