how to play keyboard how to play keyboard

Many people will claim to know how to play the keyboard, but there are only a select few who can really be regarded as the experts. Since everyone started out to learn how to play the keyboard with the same amount of time and more or less the same resources, what then, separates the experts from the average players? Upon investigation through cross referencing, we can identify 3 essential differentiators that propel the experts to the level that most keyboard players can only dream of.

Development of a good foundation

The great song composers are often top keyboard players as well. The simple reason goes no further than their background in music theories, which is a basic essential for all good musicians. While this may seem surprising for some, but only a very small percentage of proficient keyboard players have the ability to play a song by ear. The sharpness with chord and key recognition can be credited to the strong foundation built through theory studies. The experts can easily play fast songs with a myriad of keys also because they have been cultivated to play the keyboard with perfect, flexible hand postures, something shockingly not taught by some music teachers and courses out there.

Passion

The expert keyboard players are all extremely passionate about music, and playing the keyboard in particular. This passion drives them to put in more time listening to music to familiarize them with sound, and motivates them to practice on when most have lazed off. It certainly takes a great amount of focus and persistence for anyone to be able to put in all the extra hours to practice, but this is not something that can be sustained if it is forced upon or consciously cultivated. The motivation simply comes through the passion from within so that keyboard playing is something these experts truly love, unlike a work-like obligation that some feel they have to go through.

Practice

The top keyboard players get to where they are through countless hours of practices. Compare that to someone who attends keyboard lessons and practice sporadically, it is no surprise that the experts improve by leaps and bounds when others are struggling to progress. The sheer amount of dedication that the experts have in keyboard playing is what separates the hobby players from reaching the pinnacle. It is important for those who want to learn how to play the keyboard to understand that there is no shortcut and no corners to cut if he or she wants to become a top class keyboard player eventually.

From the observations, it is clear that it is the mental aspects and a willingness to get the basics correct, contribute to the background development of a great keyboard player. Therefore, if you are looking to start to learn how to play the keyboard, a big question you need to ask yourself first is if you are truly prepared to put in the hard work to get to your desired level.
