Please compare/contrast music industries of Christian Vs Pop/AC Music? For Singer-songwriters?

I just recently started listening to Christian music and I've been considering "switching over" from the secular writing I do to writing "Contemporary Christian" pop.

What would be some good references for me to learn more about the CC Music industry? Does it work pretty much the same as the secular industry? Are there signed *and* indie artists? (if so, name good examples of indie CC artists, please)?

I would probably be more interested in becoming an independent artist regardless of genre, although I have a pretty good idea of what it takes to become a secular, indie artist. What would be the differences should I switch over?

Any books, websites, or tips from people who have real answers to my questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The christian music industry and the secular music industry are very similar. I would imagine though that it would be easier to find an audience in the secular music industry. One of the major differences however is what the music is for. Christian music is about praise God where as the secular industry could be about absolutely anything. Another difference is the heart behind the artists. Their chief end is to praise God through music and bring people a better understanding of who God is. I do not agree with using the church as a means to launch yourself into the christian music industry. I'm not sure where your heart lies, but I would suggest searching to make sure you are switching for the right reason. So in the end the main difference is the christian music industry is really about praising God.
