Would you agree on this Piano/Keyboard ?
Im just learning piano, and im not taking lessons.
I've actually figured out some stuff on my own, and im taking it at my own pace.
I've been fiddleing with this little old keyboard, but im actually getting more interested in truley learning songs and scales.
I have played real pianos, And i really like the hammer action inside of a real piano,
The keyboard im looking at is the Casio CDP-100, and its only about $350 CAN.
It has nothing but 4-5 star ratings, its simple, and just what i need.
Would you agree this is a good keyboard ?
In my opinion, you should learn on a piano FIRST then use a keyboard later.
Why? If you learn piano with a keyboard, your fingers would get used to the keyboard. In other words, your feelings, strength, finger positioning, would be all adjusted to the KEYBOARD!
People say that the keyboard has the same sound as a piano, but that is impossible. That's what I thought when I started learning Scherzo No. 2 by Chopin and found out that some chords have a different sound when played on a piano and on a keyboard.
Also, a keyboard is softer than a piano, so if you learn on the keyboard first, you may not adjust to the piano later because you'll need to use more strength on the piano.
The keyboard's sound is also different than a piano because the notes are a lot harder and the notes on a piano is louder on the left of middle C (low notes) and softer on the right side of middle C (high notes). So you it is very difficult to know how much strength to use on the keyboard because this isn't really is a part of the keyboard.
At last, your feelings. A good piano player always knows that in order to actually "play" the piano, you would have to have feelings; not as a piano-playing machine that only plays the notes. You might have a bit of difficulty when you're trying to express your feeling when you're playing on the keyboard, but you shouldn't have a problem because you're just beginning piano.
For finger positioning, there is the slightest change in the position of the keys because when you start learning a hard song on the keyboard then playing it on the piano, you'll find that your fingers aren't going where they are supposed to go.
So, you should buy the keyboard for practicing, but just please remember that you should practice on a piano because I can't stress that learning the fundamentals correctly is important because it will impact how you play the piano in the future!
Happy holidays!
