what do i need to know to get into a music school?
I am 15 and am just starting to look at music schools. I have been playing for 2 years. i practice 2 hours a day and can read music fairly well. I also know some music theory but am taking a class next school year. I play rock jazz and blues.
How can i get into Berklee or MI or a good music school?
What do I need to know?
I don't know about the schools you're looking into, but most music schools focus on training musicians classically. So you should be familiar with the kind of music that they teach at the schools you're looking at.
Maybe have a lesson with a teacher you might study with at the school, because when you get there, you'll need to pick one. And it might be nice to know someone on the faculty when you're applying.
Also look at the curriculum for a bachelor's degree (it's usually online, it'll tell you what kind of classes you'll be in) and see what kind of students apply. Websites will tell you under "prospective students" or something like that.
Depending on your instrument and how well you play, you may need to put a little more time into your practicing. Music students are very competitive, and you want to be in good shape. You could also go to the school's recitals and see where you need to be in comparison to their accepted students. Students also sometimes have their recitals on youtube or myspace. You can check them out there.
