How big is Musical Theatre in Japan?
Hey!
I was just wondering how popular/big musical theatre is in Japan, or if it exists at all in Japan as I would like to move there some day and be able to perform professionally as a job.
generally big musical theaters as accommodation number is over 10000 are used as
many way except of music, for instance Tokyo Dome(about 50000 people) is used as professional baseball games on addition to music, Osaka Dome, Nagoya Dome is so.
Saitama Super Alina (about 15000) is used as music performance, wrestling game.
but for Japanese musicians, the status of music theater is not the accommodation numbers, is the history.
for instance on the point, Nihon Budokan adn Shibuya Kokaido is famous.
many young Japanese bands or singers long for their stages.
many top artists that is active now performed at the stage once.
many musicians have the ideal root, at first they performe at street,
and performe at Sinjuku Roft(about 100), next Hibiya Open-air Stage(about2000)
, third stage is Sibuya Kokaido Hall(日比谷公会堂) (about3000), at last Nihon Budokan(日本武道館)
about 10000 people, Japanese singers or bands long for finally to standing at stage on Budokan rather than Tokyo Dome and so on. because the long history exist.
considering of music theater of the name of historical music,
Teikoku Gekijou Theater(帝国劇場)is famous.
the history is very long. most famous theater.
mainly historical Japanese performance like musical or Kabuki(歌舞伎)is done in Teikoku Gekijou.
that may be similar with Broad Way in U.S.A.
Sinjuku Koma Gekijou(新宿コマ劇場)as similar type theater existed once.
but the theater was closed a few years ago.
